Koel.              22.4.20

The Koel's cries

Strident

Harsh in the summer sky

Loud and insistent.

Letting us know

That summer's arrived

The mangoes are blossoming

Fruits will soon be ripe.

I thought it was the female

Seeking a mate

Now, I learnt, its the male

Both engaged in a game.

He replies if you call to him

Seems desperate,

Her cry more gentle

Belies her malicious ways.

He's a raven mimic

And distracts the other birds

They get busy with him

that clears the path for her.

A brood parasite

Is what the Koel's called

And what she does

Will surely appall.

Slothful or callous

She doesn't care

Laying her eggs

in another's nest.

When space is short

She's quick to adjust

Throwing the other's fledglings

Out in the dust!

Heartless mother

Cruel to the core

 Killing another's young ones.

Turning her back on her own

Psalm 91 says God keeps us

'neath His wings

He's watchful and mindful

Not blind to our ills.

What a contrast

to the Koel pair

They cheat and kill

He loves and cares.

Hmm, do they sound like

the father of lies?

There's no doubt

satan- the cause of all strife.

We have a Good Father

In Him we can rest

Taking care of us fledglings

Providing for each His best!

So now we know the Koel tale

Fascinating isn't it?

In the new kingdom

I shall extrapolate

That the Koel

Will reform

Care for her young ones

Keep them warm.

So we can pray

For Dads and Mums

And ofcourse

Daughters and sons

That God turn our hearts

To each other

In our lives

and homes

That as we look to Him

He will restore

All that is lost

And double more.
