Knives. 16.5.20
Sharp steel
Edge glinting
In the dazzling light
Piercing
Cutting
Rubies shimmering bright.
Wrecking havoc
Inflicting pain
Lives sullied
Never be the same.
Robbers
Assassins
Folks of that ilk
It's who wields
The knife
That decides
Hurt or health
Death or life.
Slicing
Incising
Years of preparation
Clipping
Tying
Painstaking dissection.
Careful identification
No room for mistakes
Intense concentration
Precious life at stake.
That life
now slumbering
Blissfully unaware
Hands working on him
Cutting to repair.
The rot of infections
Vicious tentacles
Of the crab
Relieve pain
And suffering
sometimes even extra flab!!
Up close to the beauty
The living human body
Pulsating in rhythm
To our Father's heart.
Orchestra of organs
Working in tandem,
The surgeon has
Front row
To this miracle of life.
This valiant troop
Long hours on their feet
Own lives put aside
Meeting another's need.
Fatigue
Hunger and thirst
All ignored
As they work.
Let's ask our Master surgeon
To bless these precious ones
Rest for their bodies
Refreshment for their souls.
He knows the nuances of surgery
His skill unsurpassed
His expert wielding of the knife
As He operates on the heart.
From which flows
The springs of life,
So we pray
For Christ's grace
The Counselor's life
Keep our hearts
Supple and alive.
Be willing subjects
Knife of love
Often discipline
Removing the unnecessary
Cleansing us from within.
