Buddy         18.4.20

Buddy came to us

 a wee pup

Cried the first night

Aged just a month.

Black velvet

he was

from his snout

To his paws.

We wondered if we'd been cheated

Ears askew snout too long

But with the heart and tummy of a Lab

He's proved us wrong.

Walks picnics hikes drives

An outdoor dog,

He loves them all

Never wants to be left behind.

Well behaved pooch

At every social gathering

Lies politely under the table

Snout barely showing.

Loves cakes and cookies

Baked stuff right up his street

Waits for some crumbs

His share of the treat.

Crows and simians

he cannot bear

Barks non stop

Leaps up high in the air.

At the mercy of pheromones

Just a few weeks every year

Goes off his food,

Only love and fresh air.

Terrified

At the sight

of hair dryers

He's scarred for life.

The mere thought of

Giving him injections

Gives us

The palpitations.

He's nearly 10 now

Has come a long way

Has a slight limp

Is old and gray

Needs a ramp

to get into the car

On our morning runs

 he can't come too far.

Young dog at  heart,

what did you think.

Take the car keys off the nail

Watch him sprint.

Mention walk and watch him

Make a dash for the door

I'm coming with you

Not staying home alone.

Loved by Andu

Trained by him too

Deeply hurt

that Andu moved;

Sulks and gives Andu

the royal ignore

At holiday times

when Andu comes home.

In the new kingdom

The lion will lie down with the lamb

Though not mentioned

Am sure that

We'll meet

our faithful four legged friends.

In a place

which has no end.
