Tamar.           17.5.20

Stay with me

While I spin a yarn

'bout the Gulmohar

The jasmine and

The date palm.

One with fiery blooms

Defying the hot sun

Trail blazer amidst

a sere landscape

Brown and dull.

The other a garden shrub

Needs to be nurtured

Starry white blooms

Headily perfumed

Highlight of an Indian summer.

The palm with

Thorny armor

Desert survivor

Sweet fruit provider

Thrives despite the sun.

Travel back in time

Tamar a young widow

Not once, but twice over..

Humiliated in society

Stepped out of propriety

The rest is history..

Scandalous story

Read it and we blush

Voices a little hushed..

But you know what?

Her name figures

In Jesus' genealogy!!

Let's go ahead

Another sordid tale

Beautiful girl

Another Tamar

Lust perversion

Violence

Humiliation

Legacy passed down

The King soon lost His crown!

David and his sons

So we weep

Because history repeats..

The final Tamar

Mentioned in passing

Another beautiful girl

Named after her Aunt

One, Absalom's daughter

The other, his sister..

Did the little one hear

As the maids braided her hair

About her sad Aunt?

Or did the Aunt warn her

'Child, you've got to be stronger

Fight for justice

Speak up

Don't take it lying down

Literally...'

And so their lives speak still

Bold ladies

Fiery blooms

of the Gulmohar tree..

Delicate beautiful

Entrancing belles

Vivacious charming

Pure fragrant as the jasmine..

The date palm ' Tamar'

Fruits in the desert

Hot arid zone

Refreshing the body and soul.

Many Tamars amongst us

Loved by God

Merited worthy of inclusion

Let's pray for our girls

For the Spirit's unction

For bold pure

 daughters of Christ

Willing to

 stand up and fight

Bear fruit despite

Times that are harsh

Climes that are harsh

Bear fruit

That will last.
