Light a candle in my heart
This evening hour
To remember a life snuffed out
By strength and power
Who heard her screams?
As she was mauled and killed
Who came to her help
Before her blood was spilled..
The blame game begins
The scapegoat is caught
Demonstrations, placards
Protests –explanations are sought..
The hard life of an Indian junior Doctor
Harder for the girls
Long hours, sleepless nights
Along with exams, all a whirl..
Lonely dark corridors
Lust hiding in the corner
The devil rubbing his hands in glee
This is his moment, his hour!!
When will this end?
When will we awake?
That ‘viksit Bharat’ is a sham
That our country is in disgrace…
We’ve lost a daughter
Another one bites the dust
A horror story played out
No more ‘ladies first…’
Can we be bold and own up
That change has to start with us
Our sons, our students, our neighbourhoods
Shout this out, make a fuss…
Will the vigils help?
Will her tears ever dry?
Or will this be another screaming headline
Till another ‘fairer sex’ dies?
God’s in His heaven
All’s so NOT right with the world
Wake up India, listen
The tide has to turn…
